Assessments & Exams

With us, you learn from tests. You receive feedback so you know where you stand and what your next step is. In grades 1 and 2, you’ll demonstrate what you’ve learned. Starting in grade 3, you’ll begin preparing for your exams: the school exams already count toward your diploma at that point. In grade 4, you’ll complete your studies with the state exam.

  • Feedback after each test
  • Five Trivium Conversations
  • One report per year

How We Handle Testing

How do you learn from tests, what topics are covered in the Trivium discussions, and how do your exams work? You can read about all of this here, as well as where to find your grades and your report card.

Tests to Learn From

For us, a test is more than just a grade. Your teachers monitor your progress throughout the course and provide you with feedback: tips on what you’re doing well and what could be improved. After a test, you discuss in class what went well and what could be improved. It’s okay to make mistakes—that’s how you learn. The same question is always at the heart of it all: what do you need to continue learning?

Trivium Discussions

The school year begins during the first week of school with a Trivium meeting to get to know each other: the kickoff meeting. After that, you’ll have a Trivium meeting with your mentor and your parent(s)/guardian(s) during every Trivium week. That adds up to five meetings per year, and four in 4th grade. During these meetings, you’ll share how things are going. Together, you’ll review your goals and set new ones. It’s not just about your grades, but also about your personal growth. This way, you’ll gain more and more control over your own learning.

Grades 1 and 2

The subjects that are tested are listed in the Lower School Assessment Program (PTO). The school year consists of four terms. After each term, your teachers will discuss your results with you. At the end of 2nd grade, we’ll decide together what level you’ll move on to. You can read more about this at Levels & Progression.

Grades 3 and 4

In high school, you’ll take school exams (SEs). These are tests and assignments at school that count toward your diploma. The Testing and Graduation Program (PTA) specifies which school exams you’ll take for each subject and when. Please note: you may only take the central exam once you’ve completed all the school exams listed in the PTA. You’ll complete the vocational subjects in the 4th year with a practical exam: the Central Written and Practical Exam (CSPE).

The PTAs for each grade and level, the exam regulations, and the protocols for making up missed classes and retaking exams can be found on our documents.

Your grades in Magister

You won't always see a new grade right away in Magister; instead, grades are posted at set times. This gives you a chance to go over your test in class and get feedback. You can, however, see your homework, your schedule, and messages right away.

Report

You will receive one report at the end of the school year: the end-of-year report. You and your parent(s)/guardian(s) can track your grades throughout the year in Magister.

Questions?

Do you have a question about tests, the PTA, or your exam? If so, please contact your mentor. They'll be happy to help you.
