Leave & Absences

At school, you don’t just learn from books. You also learn by working together, asking questions, completing assignments, and participating in class discussions. That’s why we think it’s important for you to be there every day. The more often you’re there, the better you’ll be able to follow the lessons and the easier it will be for you to make progress.

Together, we'll make sure you're there

Reporting Sick Leave

Are you sick, or are you unable to come to school for some other reason? If so, please ask your parent(s) or guardian(s) to let us know before 8:30 a.m. That way, we’ll know where you are and that you’re okay. If you’re absent without notifying us, we’ll contact your home to find out what’s going on.

We want you to feel seen. That’s why we keep a close eye on whether you’re attending. Is going to school becoming difficult for you? If so, we’ll work with you to find a solution.

Being on time is part of the job

If you arrive on time, you can start class without any problems and won’t miss anything. We’ll always discuss any instances of tardiness, truancy, or frequent absences due to illness with you and your parent(s)/guardian(s). In doing so, we follow the law. If necessary, we’ll work with the truancy officer, who checks whether children are attending school and provides assistance if they aren’t.

Requesting Leave

Sometimes there is a special reason to request time off. Parents or guardians may submit a written request to the school administration for this purpose. The school reviews these requests in accordance with the rules of the Compulsory Education Act.

For non-Christian religious holidays, such as Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, employees may request one day of leave. Cultural holidays are not covered by this policy.

For more information, see our absenteeism protocol.
