Levels & Progression

With us, you’ll learn at the level that’s right for you starting in first grade. At the end of second grade, we’ll work with you and your parent(s)/guardian(s) to decide which level you’ll move on to. Even after that, we’ll continue to assess your needs: sometimes moving up a level, sometimes taking on more challenges at your current level. Because a great diploma at your level is just as valuable as a diploma at any other level. Learning with courage is all about a personalized approach!

  • Lessons at Your Level
  • Making a Choice Together After Second Grade
  • Courses at the TL level

Starting in first grade, lessons tailored to your level

At our school, starting in 1st grade, you’ll take classes at the “basis/kader” level or the “kader/tl” level. “Basis” refers to the basic vocational track, “kader” to the advanced vocational track, and “tl” to the theoretical track. This gives you the best chance of earning a diploma that’s right for you.

The choice after second grade

At the end of 2nd grade, we’ll work with you and your parent(s)/guardian(s) to determine which level you’ll move on to in 3rd grade. We always ask the same question: What do you need to learn as effectively as possible? We value your opinion and that of your parents very highly.

Sometimes, after the second year of high school, you’re not yet ready for the exam years. In that case, we’ll discuss together what’s best for you. That might mean you’ll be given more time, or that we’ll find another way to meet your needs. Repeating a grade never happens without good reason. Sometimes, however, it is the best choice, so that you can eventually earn a diploma that truly suits you.

Challenge in Upper Elementary

In grades 3 and 4, we also challenge you to reach your full potential. Are you ready to take it a step further? Are you at the advanced track level and excel in a subject? If so, you can complete that subject at the advanced track level. This is possible for any subject. You’ll receive a certificate for it. We consider a great diploma at your own level and a subject completed at a higher level to be equally valuable.

What degrees can you earn?

You can take exams with us in:

  • the Basic Vocational Track (BB): this allows you to advance to Level 2 of MBO;
  • The Vocational Track (KB): This track allows you to enroll in a Level 2, 3, or 4 MBO program.

At Amsfort College, our other location, you can take exams in the mixed track (GL) and the theoretical track (TL/mavo).

Leerroutes: vanuit de basisschool naar het VMBO Trivium College (basis en kader) of het Amsfort College (gl en tl), met doorstroom na 1 of 2 jaar, en daarna naar mbo niveau 2, 3 of 4 of de havo

Transition to Amsfort College

If it turns out you’re eligible to take exams at the GL or TL level, you’ll transfer to Amsfort College after the second year—and sometimes even after the first year.

Help When You Need It

Your mentor and the teachers on your core team keep a close eye on how you’re doing. Every week, they discuss what you need to learn as effectively as possible and work as a team to find the best approach. If you need additional help after that, we’ll bring in the right specialists from within the school. You and your parents will be kept informed in a timely manner, so you’ll never face any surprises at the end of the school year.
